History of NUIST
² In 1960, NUIST, formerly named Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, was founded
² In 1978, it was designated as one of the key institutions of higher learning in China
² In 2004, it was renamed “Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology” (NUIST)
² In 2005, the quality of its undergraduate education was rated as “EXCELLENT ” by China Ministry of Education
² In 2007, it joined the Program of “Chinese Government Scholarship”
² In 2010, it joined the Programs of “Confucius Institute Scholarship” and “Jasmine Scholarship of Provincial Government”
Overview of NUIST
The campus is located in Nanjing, the ancient capital for six “dynasties”, occupying an area of 140 hectares with a floor space of almost 600,000 square meters.
It offers:
² advanced teaching and learning facilities, including internet access and a library containing a total of 1,380,000 books, 915,000 electronic books and 19,000 electronic periodicals
² extensive indoor and outdoor facilities for sports and recreation, including pitches, courts, playing fields, a fully-quipped gymnasium, a swimming pool, a cinema, a student center, etc.
² 27 students’ apartment buildings including one for international students
² four large students’ canteens with Muslim food available
² supermarkets, post office, bookshops, bank, grocery stores, etc. on campus
It possesses:

III. Chinese Culture Program
The University hosts summer and winter school every year, the duration of which is around 4 weeks, and the courses include Chinese Language, Paper-cutting, Calligraphy, Martial Arts, etc. Students would visit Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties for sightseeing, learn traditional Chinese arts and culture, and experience campus life in China.

VI. Scholarship
1. Scholarship for exchange students who come from cooperative universities may vary according to the related agreement.
2. Chinese Government Scholarship: Students can apply for Chinese Government Scholarship from CSC (China Scholarship Council).(http://www.csc.edu.cn)
3. Confucius Institute Scholarship: Students can apply for Confucius Institute Scholarship from the University. (http://cis.chinese.cn/)
4. Jasmine Scholarship of Provincial Government: Students can apply for Jasmine Scholarship of Provincial Government from the University.
VII. Applicants Requirements
1. Undergraduates
Academic records in high school and graduate certificates are required for the application.
2. Master's degree candidates
Applicants for master's degrees shall have been awarded a bachelor's degree. Academic records in college, graduate certificate, bachelor’s degree certificate and recommendation letters from three professors are required for the application.
3. Doctoral degree candidates
Applicants for doctoral degrees shall have been awarded a master's degree. Academic records for master's degree, graduate certificate, master's degree certificate and recommendation letters from three professors are required for the application.
4. Chinese Study
HSK (Test for Chinese Language) is held every semester for the international students. Applicants who fail the test shall study Chinese for at least one semester before pursuing their major study (Postgraduate programs and majors conducted in English excluded).
VIII. Enrollment Procedure
1. Applicants send the completed Application Form (downloaded from www.globenuist.cn) and other needed documents to the university.
2. After reviewing and approving, the university will send Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (FORM JW201 or FORM JW202) to the applicants.
3. With above-mentioned documents and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, applicants should go to the Chinese Embassy in their country to apply for X visa (short-term candidates should apply for F visa).
4. The admitted students shall arrive in the university on time. They should notify the university and ask for a delay arrival if unable to register on time. Failing to come without notice will be regarded as giving up.
IX. The Time for Registration
The university accepts registration for spring semester before March 15 and fall semester before September 20.
