1.Brief Introduction of the College

Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College (previously known as Beijing Overseas Students Training School, Beijing Chinese Language and Culture School), founded in 1950, is directed subordinate to the Overseas Chinese Office of the State Council of China. Our college operates on the principle to offer classes in Chinese language and culture to overseas Chinese, Chinese cognates and students from all countries of the world and to promote cultural exchanges and friendly relationships between China and other countries. Since her establishment, our college has enrolled over 60,000 students from 83 countries or regions and more than 5 thousand overseas educators of Chinese language and culture have been to our campus for academic exchange and cooperation. In recent years, our college undertook a number of international project such as the entrusted commission from Ministry of Commerce, P.R.C. to hold training courses on Chinese Language for Business Purpose for officials from developing countries, and courses of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language sponsored by the Office of Chinese Language Council International. Our college is now the “Education Base of Chinese Language and Culture” of the Overseas Chinese Office of the State Council of China, and in 2009, our college became an authorized examination spot of The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK).

The regular courses include: two-year Chinese language program at college level (diploma application), one to three-year language programs (elementary, intermediate and advanced), short-term Chinese language classes (Summer/Winter Camp), professional program for overseas teachers and international programs, all of which are available to meet the different requirements.

Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College makes use of the environment advantages of Beijing to exhibit her unique teaching characteristics with paralleled emphasis on the Chinese language and culture, plus the combination of classroom teaching and social practice. For Long-term classes, the curriculum includes 14 compulsory Chinese courses and optional courses on Chinese culture, such as calligraphy, kungfu, etc. The students have classes via tourism, biweekly visiting the historic sites and key points of interest in Beijing. During each semester, the students have the opportunity of visiting historic cities and famous scenic spots for linguistic practicum. There are various regular cultural teaching activities such as Pinyin Contests, Hundred-Word and Phrase Contests, Speech Contests and sports games, etc. on occasions of holidays like the Mid-autumn Festival and Christmas, all the teachers and students have a get-together. Short-term Chinese course in Beijing is scheduled as 5-day classes (Chinese AM, Culture PM) and 2-day tours. The Chinese courses are focused on the ability of listening and speaking. The students are designated to classes (elementary, intermediate and advanced) based on their Chinese competence. Cultural courses include calligraphy, Chinese painting, kungfu, handcrafts, traditional Chinese music instruments, dancing and many courses of interest. Tours cover the main historical sites like the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City, the Olympic venues and many attractions. The college can design a specific curriculum in accordance with students’ requirements and arrange sightseeing programs, even tours outside of Beijing. The specific itinerary and price will be subject to the market.

The teaching staff, well-experienced in teaching and management, are devoted to the education of Chinese language and culture, and are familiar with the characteristics of Chinese cognates and international students. The facilities consist of language laboratories, internet rooms and multimedia rooms. The library provides a wealth of books, newspapers and magazines plus audio-visual materials. The playground and dormitory buildings provide satisfactory convenience in accommodation and recreation. The students enjoy perfect guarantee in living and learning.

Overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese origin age 18 or over, who have either graduated from senior high school or have the same educational level, and who are in good health and have a good behavioral record may study in this College.
Purposes of this Program
After two years study, successful students will be competent in Chinese language and Chinese culture, which are sought after professional talents in the modern international society. They will pass Grade 6 of HSK and qualified students will get a professional certificate which is recognised by the Chinese government. These professional certificates also allow successful students to go on to study for their bachelor’s degrees in the Overseas Chinese University (Hua Qiao University).

according to the requirements of the “Summary of Chinese language teaching to high school foreign students”, students will master 2,036 common Chinese words (written and spoken) and 4,919 phrases.

1. Applicants must show their passports or other proofs of identity. A Certificate of senior high school graduation or equivalent schooling is also needed.
2. Fill out the Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College Application Form and submit to the Admissions office of the Beijing Chinese Language College.

Long-term Chinese language classes includes: elementary classes (I, II); intermediate classes (I, II); advanced classes (I, II), each lasting one year.
Requirements and process for Application and Admission
1.Fill out the Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College Application Form and submit to the Admissions office of the Beijing Chinese Language College. Enrollees will receive an admissions notification, which should be taken to the Chinese consulate in the country from which the student is applying, to obtain an “X” student entry visa. Form JW202 is unnecessary.
2.Registration documents:
a. Admission Notice of the College.
b. Passport (Students must have obtained an “X” student entry visa at the Chinese consulate of his or her country).
c. Photos required: 7 copies of two-inch, front view, with no hat, and a blue background
3.Physical Exam
Upon admittance, new students must undergo a physical exam, at their own expense (around RMB460), by a designated medical authority. The admission of anyone found to be unsuitable for study at the College will be cancelled. Physical exam reports obtained from outside China may be accepted if verified by the Chinese medical and health department.

Students will master 2,850 Chinese words and 80 Chinese grammar items of intermediate level. Students have basic communication ability and may use Chinese in their routine study and life

Advanced Class

Modern Chinese, Advanced Chinese Composition, Reading of Selected Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Advanced Cultural Knowledge. Advanced Commercial Chinese, Chinese Grammar

Students will master about 2,800 Chinese words and about 100 Chinese grammar items of advanced level. Students will have higher communication ability and a better understanding of Chinese culture.

Specialized courses

Chinese Painting, Chinese calligraphy, Wu Shu (Chinese Martial Arts), Chinese Music and Dance, Chinese Language Computer Programs, HSK classes, etc
